What is Offshore Web Hosting?

Offshore hosting, just as the name says, is hosting that is outside of the United States. Anytime you host a website on servers that are not located in the United States, you are offshore hosting.

However, when people use the term “offshore hosting” it usually means that they are doing it deliberately. Normally for the reasons of privacy, security or freedom of speech. One example is if you need hosting for alcohol, gambling, tobacco or pornography. If that sounds like your business, check out our list of the Best Adult Website Hosting companies.

Why Would You Need Offshore Hosting?

There are many situations in which you might need to host your site outside the United States. Below, I have listed the top 5 reasons many people choose to do so:

  • Freedom of speech & press, or escaping censorship
  • Increased anonymity for the website owner/s
  • Evading national regulations on running certain businesses
  • Not having to abide by national cybersecurity laws
  • To avoid DMCA takedown request

Do you feel restricted by your government’s current laws limiting what you can say and show on the internet? When using an offshore provider, you will have fewer legal barriers than what you might face with hosting in your home country.

Some activities on your website may be illegal here in the states, but in other parts of the world might be completely fine. Hosting your website with an offshore server in a country in which it’s legal can keep your business out of trouble.

If your website is selling, streaming, or using pirated content (I do not condone this in any way), the original author can have a DMCA notice sent to your web host asking them to take your site offline. Most offshore hosts will just ignore these.

The Top 5 Best Offshore Hosting Providers

Now that you have a better understanding of what offshore hosting is and why you might need it for your website, let’s take a look at what I think are the top five providers.

The web host on this list are in no specific order. All of them provide high-quality services. It’s just a matter of finding the one that fits your needs the best.

Closing Thoughts

Offshore hosting can be a great way to practice freedom of speech, keep anonymous and bypass censorship. But, this doesn’t mean that you can host illegal content which is strictly forbidden e.g. phishing, spamming. scamming, carding, fraudulent activities and content that supports terrorism.

The best offshore hosting company for you all comes down to the needs of your site. How much space you will need and how much traffic you are currently getting. Hopefully, this list has helped narrow it down some.

If you see anything I have missed or have a question about any of these hosting providers, let me know in the comments below.

Google’s Site Kit is a free and open-source plugin, and will remain so. The individual Google products included in Site Kit will go by the standard terms and applicable fees (if any apply) for those products.

What Google Services Are Available Through Site Kit?

Google will be expanding this plugin’s capabilities and integrations in the future, but there are currently 4 Google product insights available through this plugin.

Google Services Available
~ Four Google services are currently available.
  • Analytics: Get insights of how users navigate across your WordPress site and check whether they complete your conversion goals.

  • AdSense: Keep track of your earnings on the site ads. Make your content work to earn a substantial amount through Google ads.

You can find all of the above Google insights right on your WordPress dashboard with Site Kit.

Setting up Site Kit is easy. You just have to follow the steps below to get it up and running successfully.

How Google Site Kit Shows Stats on the Dashboard

Google Site Kit Stats
~ Easy to read graphs for your stats.

Google Site Kit shows site metrics in different sections. Currently Google Site Kit displays the following metrics from different Google products. Let’s have a look at them.

  • All Traffic: First of all, it shows your site traffic in a pie chart determining how people find your site. The chart segments site traffic according to their sources (Organic, Referral, Direct).
  • Search Funnel: It shows how your website has appeared in search results and how many visitors you get from those searches. Discover your total impressions, Clicks, and Unique Visitors all in one place.
  • Popularity: This section displays the top search queries for your site with their impressions and most popular content with their views. It takes query data from search console and views from Google Analytics.
  • Search for individual page or post information: If you want to know the data of any specific page or post, you can get it by searching that post/page here. Insert your website post or page link and search by clicking on the View Data button.
  • Page Speed Insight: Know how fast your website is. It shows real user speed data and time taken to become fully interactive for both mobile and desktop devices. Alongside data, it also shows the source and scale of the speed.

Most importantly, you can see the key metrics of the last 7, 14, 28, and 90 days. You just have to select the days from the options tab on the right-hand side.

Conclusion

The Google Site Kit plugin has not been made available on the WordPress plugin directory yet. It’s still in the beta version and improvements are being made in each of its updates. If you would like to give it a try, you can download the plugin from the official Google Site Kit site.

If you have been using multiple plugins to get your Google insights, this is your chance to get rid of them. You can install Google Site Kit and get all those insights in a single place or more specifically right on your WordPress dashboard.

It’s nice to see Google getting involved in the WordPress community, and I think this can be a very useful tool for WordPress webmasters. It’s also free, so what are you waiting for?

Do You Need a WordPress Backup Plugin?

Yes! If you care about your website, I 100% recommend that you either use a backup plugin or set up a backup schedule through your web hosting provider. Ultimately, the best WordPress backup plugin is the one that you find the best for your needs.

Creating regular backups for your WordPress website should be a part of your everyday website maintenance checklist. Having backups available gives you more peace of mind and above all helps you recover your website almost immediately in case of data loss or a security breach.

Fortunately, WordPress offers several free and paid backup plugins that can simplify the entire process and make getting automated backups of your WordPress website extremely easy.

Since there are a vast number of WordPress backup plugins, I have narrowed down the list to the top five so that you can get started backing up your websites right away.

Table of Contents

Spoiler: After installing WordPress, the next thing we do is install UpdraftPlus Premium. Following one too many late nights trying to resurrect a crashed WordPress site, we’ve learned that there’s no substitute for a high-quality, long-standing, frequently updated backup solution.

Why Are Website Backups Important?

Keeping your own backup is important because not even the best hosting providers can protect your data forever. Data loss is always a threat that can potentially bring down your websites and the associated business.

Even when there is no security breach, a backup can prove to be a lifesaver. There are times when changes in the code can break your website. Updates to themes and plugins can also cause issues.

The quickest way to get your website back up and running is to just restore the last backup. This will ensure that your website suffers minimum downtime. However, this is only possible when you have a strict backup schedule in place.

The Best WordPress Backup Plugins

As with everything, many third-party developers have made free and paid plugins to streamline the whole backup process for WordPress websites. The feature set of these plugins are pretty similar. However, some plugins stand out because of their smooth performance and reliability. We’ve sought out the best WordPress backup plugins and compiled our thoughts below.

As we already noted already, we feel UpdraftPlus Premium is the gold standard, and the plugin we recommend.

There are also a few other backup plugins which are worth considering.

#1 UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin

UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin

The free version of UpdraftPlus is one of the most popular WordPress backup plugins, with more than two million active installations. With such a big user base, you can rest assured that the plugin has been tested for almost every scenario you can think of. Our choice is it’s big brother, UpdraftPlus Premium.

UpdraftPlus Premium restores and backs up your entire website. Once you have set up your schedule, you can choose to store your backups in cloud storage services such as: Dropbox, Google Drive, Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud, DreamObjects and their very own UpdraftVault.

In case of a disaster, you can automatically restore the latest backup directly from the WordPress control panel. The premium version has a ton of extra features such as add-ons, updates, support, tokens, storage, etc. UpdraftPlus also makes it easy to migrate a WordPress site to a new hosting environment.

Features of UpdraftPlus

  • Backup and restore either the entire site or individual files
  • Restore backups from other backup plugins
  • Configure multiple automatic backups
  • Store backups on several cloud services
  • Customer support available with the premium version

#2 VaultPress

VaultPress WordPress Backup Plugin

VaultPress is a popular plugin for creating and restoring backups of your WordPress websites. VaultPress was founded by Matt Mullenweg (co-founder of WordPress) and his Automattic team.

It is a subscription-based service, with different plans that offer a huge combination of features. The basic services include a backup recovery solution that works in just a few clicks. The more expensive packages include a security scan service for all of your files and WordPress database.

Each package also includes protection against brute force attacks, spam control, site migration, statistics, and an activity log.

Features of VaultPress

  • Backup your sites automatically daily
  • 1-Click restore and repair from the dashboard
  • Daily website scan for vulnerabilities and malware
  • An integrated backup storage system
  • 30-day money back guarantee

#3 BackupBuddy

BackupBuddy WordPress Backup Plugin

BackupBuddy is a premium plugin that is absolutely worth buying. Every purchase comes with 1GB of storage space with providers such as DropBox, Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud, FTP or Stash. This plugin can also transfer the website backup as an email attachment.

BackupBuddy simplifies the process of data restoration and can also restore the entire website to a new server in minimum time. This means that your website will experience very little downtime even after the worse of the disasters. To add to the security of your website, BackupBuddy also offers a malware scan.

Features of BackupBuddy

  • Easy to use and configure with no complicated settings
  • Full backups of your WordPress database and files
  • Backup schedule on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Configure multiple separate automatic backups
  • Save backups to BackupBuddy Stash, Amazon, and more

#4 BackWPup – WordPress Backup Plugin

BackWPup WordPress Backup Plugin

BackWPup is one of the most popular free WordPress backup plugins, with over 600,000 active users and over 8.5 million all-time downloads. It lets you create WordPress backups for free and stores the copies on cloud storage providers including Dropbox, Amazon S3, Rackspace and more.

It is extremely easy to use and allows you to schedule automatic backups based on how often your site is updated.

Even restoring a WordPress site from a backup is very simple. BackWPup Pro has priority support, analysis tools, database optimization and restore, and backup storage on Google Drive.

Features of BackWPup

  • Simple actionable wizard
  • Automatic daily or weekly backups
  • Save backups in.zip, .tar, tar.gz or tar.bz2 format
  • Database optimization, analysis, and repair
  • Customer support available with the Pro version

#5 Duplicator – WordPress Migration Plugin

Duplicator WordPress Migration PluginDuplicator WordPress Migration Plugin

Duplicator is the most popular plugin to migrate or clone a website from one server to another (or even on the same server). The free version allows you to manually back up your entire WordPress website or just some specific files.

The premium version, Duplicator Pro, allows you to run instant or scheduled backups. You can backup to cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or Amazon S3 for secure storage.

In addition, you have the option to limit the number of stored backups, so you do not run out of storage space. Duplicator Pro also offers an email notification option that alerts you in case something goes wrong with the website backup process.

Features of Duplicator Pro

  • Easy to configure in a few minutes
  • Back up your entire WordPress site or individual files
  • Limits the numbers of stored backups
  • Supports backup of WordPress Multisite configuration
  • Customer support included in the Pro version

WordPress Backups via Hosting (Recommended)

When you are trying to find hosting for WordPress, automated backups (preferably free automated backups) should be very high on your list.

Also, don’t forget to check the frequency of the backups. I back my website up on a daily basis. Having daily backups means that in case of disaster, you can recover the latest data and continue your business without any problems.

Another thing to pay attention to is the number of copies that your hosting provider keeps. Generally, a good web host will keep two copies, one on the server and the second on an offsite location.

My Final Thoughts

In this article, I have mentioned what I think are the five best WordPress backup plugins to get you started with website backups. However, there are many other options out there. If nothing on this list looks appropriate, you could also check out the WordPress repository.

Whatever plugin you use to backup your WordPress website, remember that your data is very important, take backups frequently and keep your WordPress website safe.

If you use a plugin that’s not listed here, let me know in the comments below. If you enjoyed this article, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Do You Need a WordPress Security Plugin?

Yes! And, that’s why we’ve compiled this Sucuri review. Even though the WordPress core files are very secure, hacks and Infections are still a huge problem. This is because most plugins and themes are poorly coded. With thousands of theme and plugin combinations out there, it’s not surprising that vulnerabilities exist and are being discovered on a daily basis.

A hacked WordPress website can cause serious damage to your business revenue and reputation. Hackers can steal information, passwords, install malicious software, and can even distribute malware to your visitors.

Every day, thousands of WordPress websites are hacked. There are many things you can do to harden your WordPress security, but nothing is going to protect you like the Sucuri plugin.

What I Like About Sucuri

As I was researching website security companies, the name Sucuri kept appearing at the top of every list of the best cybersecurity products available. It was one of the most popular security plugins for WordPress. So, I decided to give it a try myself.

Sucuri was very simple to use. It is a WordPress plugin which even a newbie blogger could easily install. All I had to do was click the “Generate API Key” then, follow the instructions on the pop-up. I had it up and running in just a few minutes.

Generate Sucuri API
~ Just generate your API and you are ready to go.

There were a lot of advanced features that allowed me to adapt the program to my individual preferences if I wanted. These were a little more complex to set up, but I found tons of helpful resources to walk me through it, step-by-step.

Sucuri Options
~ Sucuri has tons of options to keep your website safe.

As I explored all the options, my appreciation of Sucuri grew. Without doubting the ingenuity of would-be hackers, I believe this program will at least give them a serious obstacle to get through, and most likely stop them altogether.

How Does Sucuri Protect Your Website?

Sucuri not only puts in place layers of security to prevent hacking and malware, but they also constantly monitor their client’s websites. They keep logs for their customers of every vulnerability they discover and every fix they apply. They also report every potential security issue to the WordPress core team, with whom they work closely with, to protect the innocents. There are also many other, third-party vendors, with whom they communicate at the first sign of any threat, to make sure you are protected from every possible angle.

In addition to all that, Sucuri promises to help in case a hacker does somehow get through. So far, I am happy to report, I have not had the opportunity to test that part of their service. However, it is a great comfort to know that, should it prove necessary, Sucuri will help their customers with the following:

  • Remove Malware from your site.
  • Help you access your site if you get locked out.
  • Remove you from blacklists.
  • Stop hacking or DDoS attacks.

Of course, the hope is to stop the hackers before they get in. So, Sucuri uses what they call a “Website Application Firewall (WAF).” It censors traffic at the server level, before it gets to your web host. That way, it manages to block threats before they can reach your website files.

Website Application Firewall
~ Sucuri uses a Website Application Firewall (WAF).

Sucuri keeps monitoring your site at regular intervals, keeping records of every log-in and failed log-in attempt, any changes to your files, and all signs of suspicious activity. Sucuri also makes sure blacklist engines aren’t blocking your site because of security issues, and they not only alert you to any vulnerabilities, but they can also remove them if you want.

For example, Sucuri will remove your WordPress version display. If you are like me and sometimes hesitate to upgrade to the latest WordPress version, then you are not protecting yourself as quickly as you can from emerging threats. You don’t want the world of potential hackers to know that you are using an older, more vulnerable, WordPress version. Sucuri will also directly protect all of your uploads, guaranteeing that they are virus-free.

A welcomed side-effect of installing Sucuri is that that my website is now running smoother and quicker than ever before. My guess is that there had been more attacks against me than I realized and that Sucuri is now stopping them.

Sucuri Review: How much does it cost?

Sucuri offers three different plans for their security system:

Basic Plan

$199.99 / year
Scan Every: 12 Hours

Professional Plan

$299.99 / year
Scan Every: 6 Hours

Business Plan

$499.99 / year
Scan Every: 30 Minutes

All of the plans come with an SSL Certificate. However, the Professional and Business plans offer one that is customizable. All plans include the website firewall, unlimited malware cleanup, attack prevention capability, blacklist removal, and Sucuri’s multi-level protection from hacks.

Sucuri Pricing
~ How much does Sucuri cost?

One thing we found missing from the Sucuri review that swayed us in its favor was price. Several reviews actually skirt around Sucuri’s price, and that’s probably because it isn’t cheap. But, pricing is annual, and you get what you pay for.

The major difference between the plans is how often Sururi scans your site. With the Basic plan, which costs only $199.99/year, Sucuri only scans your site once every 12 hours. That probably is fine, considering all the other layers of protection they include. However, I had a first-hand view of how much damage could be done to my site and my reputation by a hack in only 12 hours. Therefore, I opted for the Professional plan, which scans every 6 hours and costs $299.99/year.

If I could have afforded the $499.99/year price, I would have gone even further and bought the most powerful and comprehensive Business plan. With the Business plan, Sucuri scans every 30 minutes and offers advanced DDoS Protection, Blacklist notifications, and an instant chat option with their customer service.

How Good is Sucuri’s Customer Support?

Sucuri’s customer service is available 24/7 and their engineers are up-to-date with all of the newest developments.

They have a huge knowledgebase on their website with all the information and tutorials you’ll ever need to keep your site secure with their plugin. They also have a blog where you can find the latest WordPress security tips.

The Pro version of the plugin includes customer support from the developers via support tickets, and the more expensive Business plan includes live chat support.

If you are using the free version of the plugin, you can always get answers fairly quickly on the WordPress support forums.

Sucuri Review Conclusion

Would I Recommend the Sucuri Plugin?

Yes, we recommend the Sucuri plugin. Sucuri is the best plugin when it comes to keeping your WordPress website safe and secure from almost any kind of attack. This is especially true if you have the budget for the pro version (paid version). There is no other plugin that currently offers a DNS-level firewall.

From a personal standpoint, I have had websites get destroyed by hacking. I know how devastating this can be if you are trying to make a living online. Watching my earnings go to $0 overnight and having to submit a reconsideration request to Google to have my website reindexed was a low point in my life.

If you are serious about keeping your website safe I would definitely give them a try. They have a 30-day money back guarantee so if you are not happy with anything you can get a full refund.

Pros

Knowledgable Support
Unlimited Malware Cleanup
Website Application Firewall (WAF)
SSL Certificate With All Plans

Cons

A Little On The Pricey Side
Some Options Can Be Complex
Ticket Based Support
Extra Cost For Multisite Installs

Final Thoughts

The experience of getting hacked is something you never want to have to deal with. In the past, I have learned the hard way. It left me feeling very vulnerable and I seriously considering giving up my blog altogether. Thank God for Sucuri and for their protection. I can enjoy blogging again, knowing they’ve got me covered in every possible way.

What is Adult Web Hosting?

Adult web hosting is a hosting solution for people who want to host any website dealing with goods and services available only to those older than 18 or 21. This includes tobacco, alcohol, gambling, firearms, and pornography.

How is Adult Hosting Different?

Adult websites often require more security and higher bandwidth due to the content, which consists mostly of high-quality images and streaming videos. Some providers have specially designed plans that will fulfill these requirements.

These plans will include powerful servers that provide lightning-fast speeds. Using this kind of hardware will allow these demanding websites to load quickly and smoothly.

Finding web hosting providers that have these types of plans and can reliably host your adult content can be a daunting task. So below, I have put together a list of which adult web hosting plans are the best.

The Top 6 Best Adult Hosting Providers

Some of the web host on this list you may recognize and some you may not. The mainstream companies like Dreamhost and Liquid Web don’t specialize in adult hosting, but they allow it.

All providers offer quality services. The adult web host on this list are in no certain order. It’s just a matter of finding the one that fits your needs the best.

#1 Hostinger

Hostinger is an extremely popular web hosting company founded in 2004. Based in Europe, they serve over 29 million customers around the world with over 15,000 signups a day!

No matter which hosting plan you choose to go with, Hostinger seems to emphasize low prices and affordability on all of their products. Some plans being as low as $0.80 a month!

Hostinger Adult Hosting

You know the old saying “you get what you pay for?” That’s not the case here. When compared to big-name companies like Hostgator or Bluehost you are getting much more bang for your buck.

One feature that stands out to me about Hostinger are their strong firewalls. These are provided on all of their servers. Regardless of which plan you choose. This will help protect your website from malicious attacks such as DDOS and Malware.

Hostinger Key Features

  • $0.80 Shared Hosting

This web hosting provider has a solid mix of plans and services for any price range. All of which can be used to reliably host an adult website.

Dreamhost Adult Hosting

Two things make Dreamhost stand out from the others on this list. The 100% uptime guarantee and the 97-day money back guarantee. You will not find this with any other company.

The only real drawback that I could find with Dreamhost is that they don’t use cPanel. Instead, they use a custom-built panel to manage your websites, databases, email, and billing.

Dreamhost Key Features

  • Solid State Drives
  • 100% Uptime
  • Unlimited Domains
  • 24/7/365 Support
  • Unlimited Bandwidth

Visit Dreamhost

All in all, Dreamhost is impressive. You are not going to find a more reliable web host. They have some of the most knowledgable staff in the industry and a 97-day money back guarantee to back it all up. So, there is really no risk in giving them a try.

#3 TMD Hosting

TMDhosting has been in the hosting industry for over 10 years. They have been considered as a reliable choice for those in need of a quality adult web hosting provider.

They have several data centers spread across the United States and one offshore data center in Amsterdam. All their data centers are certified by the SSAE-16 standard that assures the highest quality of service.

TMD Adult Hosting

You may not have heard about TMDHosting. It is not as well-known as companies like Hostgator or Bluehost, but they seem to have built a solid customer base and are constantly growing.

TMDHosting has a vast array of hosting options. This includes shared, VPS, reseller, and dedicated hosting plans. These plans have excellent features including free cPanel support, free domains, and the company’s 15-minute support response guarantee.

TMD Hosting Key Features

  • Free Domain Name
  • Unlimited Bandwidth
  • cPanel Control
  • NGINX Web Server
  • Military Grade Security

Visit TMD Hosting

In my opinion, TMD hosting is a great choice if you plan on hosting an adult website. They are so confident in their product, they will compensate you for up to 6 months of your unused service at your current web host if you decide to host with them.

#4 Web Host Pro

WebHost.pro was established back in 2001. At the time they were called DWHS (Domain Web Hosting Service). Now, Web Host Pro is one of the world’s most trusted premium adult web hosting providers. Since their creation, they have hosted over a million domains.

Web Host Pro offers both shared and dedicated hosting. Both of these are top-notch, but their main focus is on high end dedicated hosting.

Web Host Pro Adult Hosting

While they don’t have the same name recognition as many other big names in the business, they do provide their services to many high-end companies such as MySpace, FIFA and Sony.

This is a USA based company. All of their employees work on-site in their data centers based in Los Angeles. This allows them to provide you with unmatched 24/7/365 support.

Web Host Pro Key Features

  • Blazing Fast Hardware
  • 24/7/365 Support

Every web hosting plan comes with a 45-day money back guarantee, 99.9% uptime guarantee, and a commitment to keeping their customers happy. Whether you’re a beginner or a well-established website owner, Web Host Pro is a great company to work with.

#5 Liquid Web

Liquid Web was founded in 1997 and has become a leader in managed hosting. They specialize in managed VPS hosting, managed cloud hosting and managed dedicated hosting.

Their main headquarters is in Lansing, Michigan. Here they own 3 datacenters. They also have additional data centers in Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago and even Amsterdam.

Liquid Web Adult Hosting

Liquid Web is famous for their knowledgable staff and top tier support. You can contact them by phone, live chat or helpdesk and you are guaranteed a response within 60 seconds!

All of Liquid Web’s servers are built with security, speed and performance in mind and because they are managed, this is one of the most hassle-free hosting solutions available.

Liquid Web Key Features

  • Solid State Drives
  • GlobalSign SSL
  • 100% Uptime
  • Cloudflare CDN
  • 24/7/365 Support

Visit Liquid Web

All of this does come at a cost. Liquid Web is definitely on the expensive side. But you get what you pay for right? If you can afford it, Liquid Web is probably going to be the fastest most reliable adult hosting provider on this list.

#6 ViceTemple

ViceTemple (a fairly new adult hosting company) was founded in 2016. It’s part of a larger network that has been offering specialized hosting for the past 8 years.

ViceTemple was created to meet all the requirements that adult businesses require, this includes adult hosting, themes, scripts domains, etc.

ViceTemple Adult Hosting

This company is unique for offering very high bandwidth for an extremely low price. Nowadays, this is a necessity for any adult business.

At this time, ViceTemple only has 12 employees but they work on-site in the datacenters. They are privately owned and all of their servers are located in Amsterdam, city of vice.

ViceTemple Key Features

  • Unlimited Traffic
  • 99.99% Uptime
  • cPanel Hosting
  • Offshore Location
  • Full Data Privacy

Visit ViceTemple

If you decide to go with ViceTemple, they will help you move your website from your existing web host free of charge. They also provide 24/7/365 professional support, so you can rest assured your website will be up and running smoothly at all times.

My Final Thoughts

All of the companies listed here are adult friendly. Just keep in mind that this does not mean you can upload illegal or copyrighted content. If you do, they will have the right to take legal action against you and your website.

The best adult hosting provider for you all comes down to the needs of your website. How much space you will need and how much traffic you are currently getting. Hopefully, this list has helped narrow it down some.

If you see anything I have missed or have a question about any of these hosting providers, let me know in the comments below.

Why Does Website Speed Matter?

Having a fast loading website is crucial nowadays for several reasons. First off, Google has recently stated that website speed (and as a result, page speed) is now a ranking factor for both mobile and desktop.

Page speed is also important to user experience. Studies show that at least 47% of people expect a website to load in under 2 seconds and 40% of people will abandon a website that takes 3 or more seconds to load.

Websites with a longer load time tend to have higher bounce rates and lower average time on page. Longer load times have also been shown to negatively affect conversions.

For these reasons, it’s very important to have a fast loading WordPress theme. Every step that you can take to increase the speed of your website will increase your traffic, increase user engagement with your content, and increase conversions.

Spoiler: GeneratePress Premium is our go-to theme. It is incredibly fast. And, by stepping up to premium (for only $49.95) you can create an unlimited number of Premium sites for yourself or for clients! Here’s the full feature list:

  • All premium modules
  • Full access to the Site Library
  • Unlimited websites
  • 1 year of updates & support
  • 40% renewal discount
  • 30 day money back guarantee

This site is built with GeneratePress Premium (read our GeneratePress Review), and it is our #1 recommended theme!

How Did I Find the Fastest WordPress Themes?

I ran hundreds of the most popular WordPress themes through PageSpeed Insights, Pingdom and GTmetrix. All of the themes were tested out of the box with no extra plugins or modifications. After sorting through the results there were 3 clear winners:

  1. GeneratePress
  2. Astra
  3. OceanWp

All 3 of these themes have a free version so there is no risk in giving them a try for yourself. If you are considering switching themes, I would download and test these themes performance against your own. You can do this by running it through the tools mentioned above.

#1 GeneratePress WordPress Theme

  • Author: Tom Usborne

About the GeneratePress Theme

Is GeneratePress the fastest WordPress theme? Probably. That’s why it’s at the top of this list. Hardly anything comes close to its incredibly small size of 30kb!

GeneratePress uses vanilla JS and does not rely on any external sources like jQuery so it gets rid of all render blocking issues. All CSS and JS come minified out of the box. GeneratePress also uses a module system which allows you to turn on and off features based on if you need them or not. This can speed things up a lot because you are not loading unneeded scripts.

GeneratePress has both free and premium versions. The free version of the theme is awesome and comes with lots of features. However, some of the things that make this theme so great cannot be accessed without purchasing the premium version.

The premium version of GenertatePress will run you $49.95. A small price to pay for the quality and performance of this theme. Not to mention, you can use it for unlimited websites.

So how fast is the GeneratePress WordPress Theme? Below we tested the basic theme with no extra upgrades or plugins, and the results were amazing.

Pingdom Speed Test (GeneratePress)

GeneratePress Pingdom
~ GeneratePress scored a 99 on the Pingdom Speed Test.

GTmetrix Speed Test (GeneratePress)

GeneratePress GTmetrix
~ GeneratePress scored a 99 on the GTmetrix speed test.

My Thoughts About GeneratePress

These scores are very impressive. If you would like to run the test yourself you can use the URL speedtest.generatepress.com. They have the basic theme with no upgrades hosted here.

Tom hit a home run with this one. GeneratePress makes it very easy to create a modern looking website. It is probably the fastest WordPress theme out of the box. It’s compatible with all major plugins. Their support is unmatched. All of this is what makes me love GeneratePress so much, and I would highly recommend this theme to anyone.

About the Astra Theme

Astra is a super fast loading WordPress theme that was created by Brainstorm Force a team of passionate hackers, designers, writers, marketers, artists, and creators.

This theme was built for performance and speed, but without sacrificing features and customization. Out of the box Astra loads in under half a second.

Just like GeneratePress, Astra uses Vanilla JS and does not rely on any external sources like jQuery so it gets rid of all render blocking issues that normal WordPress themes experience.

Astra is also very lightweight. It needs less than 50 KB of resources whereas most of the other WordPress themes require at least 300 KBs.

This theme has a free and premium version. The premium version is full of awesome features and gives you access to their pre-made templates. These can speed the build process up if you can find one that suits your needs.

The premium version will run you $59 annually and $249 for a lifetime license. This is all backed by a 14 day 100% Money Back Guarantee (no questions asked) so there is no risk.

So how fast is the Astra WordPress theme? Below are the results from Pingdom, GTmetrix and Page Insights. This theme is a very close second to GeneratePress.

Pingdom Speed Test (Astra)

Astra Pingdom
~ Astra scored a 90 on the Pingdom Speed Test.

GTmetrix Speed Test (Astra)

Astra GTmetrix
~ Astra scored a 100 on the GTmetrix speed test.

Page Insights Speed Test (Astra)

Astra Page Insights
~ Astra scored a 100 on the Page Insights speed test.

My Thoughts About Astra

Astra is a great all around theme. Although it’s not quite as fast as GeneratePress, Astra makes up for it with more features and better usability.

Because Astra is a multipurpose theme, you can create any type of website you want. It works great with popular page builders like Elementor, Beaver Builder and Visual Composer. So, it’s easy to create a fast loading modern website.

Whether a beginner or a developer, you will love this theme.

#3 OceanWP WordPress Theme

  • Website: https://oceanwp.org
  • Price: $39 One Website
  • Author: Nicolas Lecocq
  • WordPress.org Score:

About the OceanWP Theme

OceanWP was created in 2016 by Nicolas Lecocq. It’s currently rated 5 out of 5 in the WordPress theme repository with more than 100k active installations.

OceanWP is very lightweight and highly extendable. This theme will enable you to create almost any type of website such as a blog, portfolio, business website and WooCommerce storefront with a beautiful & professional design.

Unlike the other themes on this list, OceanWP comes with most of its features in the free version. You only have to pay for premium extensions if you want to add specific functionality to the theme.

The extension bundle will run you $39 for a single website and for $129 you can use the extensions and demo templates on unlimited websites.

So how fast is the OceanWP WordPress theme? OceanWP came in third place. One of the reasons for this is probably because most of the features are already included with the free version.

Pingdom Speed Test (OceanWP)

OceanWP Pingdom
~ OceanWP scored a 82 on the Pingdom Speed Test.

GTmetrix Speed Test (OceanWP)

OceanWP GTmetrix
~ OceanWP scored a 98 on the GTmetrix speed test.

Page Insights Speed Test (OceanWP)

OceanWP Page Insights
~ OceanWP scored a 87 on the Page Insights speed test.

My Thoughts About OceanWP

OceanWp is not as fast as GeneratePress or Astra but it’s still faster than 99% of the other WordPress themes.

My favorite thing about OceanWP is that most of the features are available in the free version. So, if you are trying to build a website on a budget, this is the theme for you.

OceanWP was definitely built with performance in mind. It allows you to enable and disable pretty much everything and is very easy to use. A beginner should have no problem creating a great website.

Conclusion

I wanted to create this list because there is so much misinformation out there. For example, saying Avada is a fast theme is a complete lie. Avada is one of the slower themes that I ran in my test. It’s a great theme but definitely not one of the fastest.

There are a lot of things you can do to speed up your WordPress website and starting out with a fast loading theme is a huge step in the right direction. Not only are all the themes listed on this page super fast, but they can also be downloaded for free. So, don’t take my word for it, try them out yourself.

Hopefully, you have enjoyed this article. If you have questions about any of the themes on this list, please let me know in the comments below.

WordPress Hosting with the benefits of Cloud Hosting

Cloud Hosting is an environment where your website will draw upon resources from a cluster or network of servers instead of just one. This can increase speed and reliability because the work is spread out over many servers.

For the same price (or cheaper), you get more of everything, plus a global CDN, email hosting and site migration is included, too.

Both Media Temple and WP Engine charge a hefty price for the Global CDN which is included free with Hostgator, and neither one of these companies offer the Free $100 Adwords credits.

Speed and Uptime

I signed up for a free account at pingdom.com about 6 months ago to monitor the average uptime and speed of Zuziko. The results were surprisingly good. Hostgator’s average response time over a 5 month period was a blazing 348ms, this beats the industry average by more than 50%. WordPress Cloud Hosting Plans

HostGator offers three  WordPress Cloud Hosting plans available: Starter Plan, Standard Plan and Business Plan. The Starter Plan is their basic plan and the Business Plan hast the most storage, maximum hosted WordPress sites and computer power.

At first glance, the downside of HostGator WordPress Cloud hosting is the cost. You will spend almost double when compared to shared hosting. I would not let this turn you away though. From my experience it’s worth every penny in the long run to have the extra reliability, speed and security WordPress Cloud hosting offers.

Hostgator WordPress Cloud Hosting Price

As you can see above, there are three different plans to choose from. Hostgator can be a little sneaky with their pricing so, below I will go over what all this actually means.

  • Starter Plan » $5.95/Month for 36 Months or $14.95 Monthly.
  • Standard Plan » $7.95/Month for 36 Months or $20.95 Monthly.

HostGator Support

There has been a slow decline in HostGator’s support over the last few years but the quality and variety of support they offer is still unmatched. I have used over twenty different web host in the last seven years and Hostgator’s support is still the best as far as getting your questions answered quickly and correctly. HostGator offers four different types of support:

Live Chat

This is probably the quickest way to get things resolved. From my experience, you will get connected with someone in about fives minutes on average. Although I have waited as long as thirty minutes.

Phone

If you are having trouble explaining things through live chat you can always call them 24/7/365. Just like live chat, phone support is always available.

Email

Sometimes you might need to send your website files or screenshots to help someone understand your problem. This is when email would be the best option.

Ticket

Sometimes you might have a problem that is difficult to solve. You will be asked to make a ticket (or they will create it for you) and someone with more experience will take a look.

Pros

Free Comodo SSL
Free Global CDN
Fast Response Times
Uptime Guarantee
Quality Support

Cons

High Renewal Cost
No Free Domain
No cPanel
Upselling
Limited Websites

My Final Thoughts

HostGator is a well-established presence in the web hosting industry and for good reason. They offer a diversified set of WordPress hosting plans, which are built with scalability in mind. Every plan comes with a free Comodo SSL, free Global CDN, a 45-day money-back guarantee. So if you are interested in giving them a try, you can do so with no risk.

I only write reviews about companies or products I think are worthy of actually recommending and HostGator WordPress Cloud hosting has met or exceeded all my expectations over the last four years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HostGator WordPress Cloud Hosting good?

Yes. HostGator is a great company and we have been using them for WordPress hosting for several years now with no significant issues to report. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fast, reliable WordPress web host at a very competitive price. If you are using WordPress, I think HostGator WordPress Cloud hosting would be a great option.

Is GoDaddy or HostGator a better WordPress web host?

While both are good companies, we find HostGator to be better than GoDaddy for our WordPress needs. With most things being equal, HostGator customer service edges out GoDaddy in our experience. If we were buying a domain, GoDaddy would be the one to choose.

The Premium upgrade is a mere $49 upgrade for unlimited usage, meaning you can use the Premium features on as many websites as you wish.

Zuziko.com runs on WordPress and the GeneratePress Theme with the Premium upgrade.

How is GeneratePress so fast?

The GeneratePress template code is compact and minimalist, using coding best practices and a minimalist design that reduces overhead. In fact, the entire theme is only 30kb when installed, significantly smaller than the average WordPress theme. GeneratePress has a rating on wordpress.org with over 2,000,000 downloads and 200,000 active users. This is one of the fastest and most highly rated multipurpose themes available for WordPress.

In this GeneratePress review, I will explain why I was so impressed with this theme. Then, I’ll also share some of the key things that make GeneratePress stand out from the competition.

GeneratePress

What Makes GeneratePress so Great?

Extremely Fast

Thanks to it’s size, this theme is one of the fastest.

Clean Code

GeneratePress uses the most stable coding standards.

Vanilla JS

Clean, vanilla javascript. No more render blocking.

Feather Light

The default WordPress install is less than 30kb.

Accessibility

Uses WCAG 2.0 standards so no one is left out.

SEO

Schema structured data and very fast load times.

Key Features

The free version of GeneratePress is pretty basic. Not to say that it’s not good, it just does not offer a whole lot of features. If you want to get full use of the theme you will have to install the basic theme and purchase a premium plugin. This will greatly extend the functionality of the theme. Below I will go over some of the features that come with the premium version.

Modules

Modules are only accessible if you purchase the premium GeneratePress plugin. These modules can be turned on or off depending on what you may need. Below I go over what each one does…

  • Backgrounds – Add background images and options throughout your site elements.
  • Blog – Featured image controls, columns & masonry, infinite scroll & more.
  • Colors – Take control of your site colors using over 60 color options.
  • Copyright – Replace the copyright message at the bottom of your site.
  • Disable Elements – Turn off various theme elements on specific pages throughout.
  • Elements – Dynamic page heroes, an advanced hook system and custom theme layouts.
  • Menu Plus – Sticky navigation, off canvas navigation, mobile header and more!
  • Secondary Nav – Add a second navigation with all the same options as the primary.
  • Sections – Your own tiny page builder. Break out of the content area with Sections.
  • Spacing – Control the sizes, padding & margin of your site elements.
  • Typography – Over 70 typography options give you complete control over your site text.

Elements

Elements are only accessible if you purchase the premium GeneratePress plugin as well. These are great for adding custom code, creating a modern page hero, or fully customizing the theme itself. I have listed a few below…

  • Page Hero – Add an image or a content page header with full screen and parallax.
  • Sections – Easily create seamless sections inside your pages for modern layouts.
  • Layout – Easily change the container width, spacing, padding, etc. of all elements.
  • Hooks – Hook custom code into any area of the theme without changing core files.

Is GeneratePress Easy to Use?

Because there are so many customization options on GeneratePress it can take a while to go through them all and find out exactly what each one does, but things will get easier once you become accustomed to it.

Out of the box, GeneratePress is very basic. The picture below is a fresh install with no upgrades.

GeneratePress Fresh Install

This might be the only downfall of this theme. It’s up to you to make all the customization and make it your own so it can be time-consuming. A theme that is pre-built for your specific niche might be a better choice if you are limited on time.

Update: Recently GeneratePress has added about 28 pre-made templates that you can download and import with the click of a button on there Site Library. This can speed the build process up a lot if you find one that fits your niche.

How Fast is the GeneratePress Theme?

Speed is one of the most important aspects of your website. Speed is very important for your visitors, and it’s also a very important ranking factor for search engines. GeneratePress was built from the ground up with speed in mind.

GeneratePress uses Vanilla Javascript so it does not rely on any external jQuery or additional JS Libraries. This gets rid of the render-blocking issues that 99% of themes have. All CSS and JavaScript is minified out of the box. GeneratePress also uses a module system that allows you to turn on and off features based on if you need them or not. This can speed up your site because you are not loading unneeded scripts.

All this sounds great but how does it actually perform on Pingdom, Gtmetrics and Page Insights?

~ GeneratePress scored a 99 on the Pingdom Speed Test.

GTmetrix Speed Test

~ GeneratePress scored a 99 on the GTmetrix speed test.

Page Insights Speed Test

~ GeneratePress scored a 100 on the Page Insights speed test.

These scores are very impressive. If you would like to run these test yourself you can use the URL speedtest.generatepress.com. They have the basic theme with no upgrades hosted here.

Will My Plugins Work?

GeneratePress is compatible with all major plugins. Yoast SEO, Contact Form 7, Akismet Anti-Spam, Jetpack, WooCommerce and WP Super Cache just to name a few.

I personally have tried about fifty plugins with this theme and have not found a single one that did not work correctly.

How Much Will it Cost Me?

There is a free version of GeneratePress available for download on WorPress.org. If you want the Premium version you will need to purchase a plugin to extend the functionality of the theme.

Is GeneratePress Premium worth it?

GeneratePress Premium makes customizing your WordPress website easier and faster. The Premium elements that make the difference are the unique modules and Site Library only available with the Premium upgrade.

GeneratePress Review - Theme Price

GeneratePress premium is a little pricey at $49.95, but it’s worth every penny. With the speed and customization this theme offers I see no need of having to purchase anything else in the near future.

When you purchase the premium version of GeneratePress you will get…

  • Access to the Site Library
  • 1 year of updates & support
  • 30 day money back guarantee
  • Access to Modules & Elements
  • 40% renewal discount
  • Unlimited websites

How Good is Their Support?

GeneratePress currently has two types of support.

They have a very active support forum that you can use. I have always gotten a clear answer back within a few hours. Tom and the rest of the guys here really know what they are doing.

They also have a huge documentation page where the entire theme is covered in-depth. If you don’t like to read, don’t worry they have videos on almost everything as well.

Even if you for some reason can’t find the answer you need on the support forum or in the documentation, you will almost certainly find it on Google. This theme has been around for quite some time and a lot of questions have been answered on many other websites.

My Final Thoughts

Tom hit a home run with this one. GeneratePress makes it very easy to create a modern looking website. It is probably the fastest WordPress theme out of the box. It’s compatible with all major plugins. Their support is unmatched. All of this is what makes me love GeneratePress so much, and I would highly recommend this theme to anyone.

Why Would You Need to Password Protect WordPress?

When you are working with WordPress, there will probably be a time that you need to password protect your entire site. Below are a few examples why:

  • You offer a private site where only premium users are allowed.
  • You put your website in maintenance or under-development mode.
  • You intend to create a private website for internal operations and communications.

The built-in WordPress password protection feature only allows you to secure individual pages and posts. Installing a third-party plugin can help you password protect your entire website.

While there are many password protection plugins out there, Password Protect WordPress Pro (PPWP Pro), Password Protected, Hide My Site Premium, and SeedProd Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode are among the most popular.

In this article, we will compare these 4 plugins based on their features, updates, support, and pricing to help you decide which plugin would be best for you. Since the free versions provide restricted features, we will focus on the premium (Pro) versions, except for Password Protected, this plugin only offers a free option.

The Best WordPress Password Protection Plugins

Before going into detail about these plugins, let’s take a quick look at some of their features:

An In-Depth Explanation of These Features

#1 Password protection

Password Protect WordPress (PPWP) Pro, Password Protected, Hide My Site, and SeedProd Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode will all allow you to assign a password to protect your entire WordPress website.

In terms of setting multiple passwords, PPWP Pro is the winner. It enables you to set various passwords to secure the site and then send each user a different password to access the hidden content. Each password is placed in one line in the password box.

It’s possible for you to decide what users will see once they successfully log in to your password-protected website. You can also send different users to a separate landing page.

PPWP Pro does not prevent brute force attacks at the moment. Visitors can try as many passwords as they would like in password forms without any restrictions or blocks.

SeedProd’s Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode lets you show the password form in the coming soon page. You can set only one password to lock your under-development site. It also cannot block password attempts from automatic scripts.

Unlike the other 3 plugins, Hide My Site helps protect login pages from brute force attacks more effectively. If any IP address attempts to log into your site repeatedly but fails, it will be temporarily banned.

#2 Access permissions

Sometimes you might want specific users to view your private content without having to enter a password. You can grant access to selected user roles (admins, editors, authors, etc.) with PPWP Pro and SeepProd plugins while Password Protected and Hide My Site open the door for admins only.

If you want to permit specific users based on their IP addresses, Password Protected, Hide My Site, and SeedProd all support that.

PPWP also gives your users temporary access through bypassed links (access links). Instead of entering passwords, they can click on the access link and directly view the protected site. The same thing goes for SeedProd Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode.

On top of that, it’s possible for you to decide how long a user can re-visit your private site without entering passwords. Just enable the Cookies Expiration feature of PPWP Pro and the Duration option of Hide My Site. Unfortunately, the other 2 plugins do not offer this.

#3 Content restriction

If you want to make certain pages public within a private site, PPWP Pro is the perfect plugin. You can easily exclude pages and posts from within your site-wide protection via a search box:

~ PPWP Pro Content Exclusion Feature.

The same thing goes for SeedProd Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode plugin.

If you don’t want your website indexed, the PPWP Pro plugin can help with that. It blocks search engines (via the “noindex” tag) from indexing and displaying your protected content on search results. This feature is enabled by default so you don’t need to take any action.

SeedProd protects your private site from the search engines in another way. It tells crawlers that your site is down via the 503 header HTTP status.

Unfortunately, none of these plugins are able to secure media types. However, you can integrate PPWP Pro with the Prevent Direct Access Gold plugin to restrict direct access to your images, videos, ebooks, and more.

#4 Login page customization

If you would like to create a better UI and UX for users, customizing the login page should be a priority. You can change the notification messages in password forms with both PPWP Pro and Hide My Site. Password Protected will let you replace WordPress’s logo with your own.

SeedProd is the best plugin when it comes to login page customization. Since this plugin comes primarily as a theme plugin, you can choose gorgeous themes for your login or password page.

Documentation, Support, and Updates

#1 How Good is the Documentation and Support?

Since Password Protected doesn’t have its own business website, there is no documentation provided. You have to look for how to set up and use the plugin via the plugin’s frequently asked questions on the WordPress repository. If there are not any questions related to your problem, you need to figure it out yourself or create new topics in the support section.

PPWP Pro documentation page, on the other hand, lists out everything you need to know about the plugin in a very well-organized way. You can find any information about the plugin there, from how to get started, the way each feature works to its extensions, and more. In addition, the reviews on WordPress repository show that customers are very satisfied with the PPWP’s support team. You can normally receive a response in less than 1 business day.

SeedProd’s documentation also makes it very easy for users to get started with the plugin.

#2 How Often Are These Plugins Updated?

It’s very important for your website security to keep all plugins up to date.

PPWP Pro releases new versions frequently. These frequent updates aim to add new features and fix bugs. SeedProd keeps its plugins up to date regularly as well.

There have been no new releases of Hide My Site and Password Protected for the last 4 months.

How Much do These Plugins Cost?

The costs of these 4 plugins vary widely depending on the package you choose from. Password Protected is freely available on WordPress.org. That partly explains its limitations in features and customer support compared to the others.

Hide My Site offers 2 pricing packages: buy a 1-site license with $20 or an unlimited-sites license with $50. These 2 licenses are valid forever.

SeedProd bills you annually, with 3 types of prices: $29 for 1 year of support and updates for 1 website, $69 for 1 year of support and updates for 3 websites, and $99 for 1 year of support and updates for unlimited websites.

PPWP Pro combines the pricing models of 2 plugins SeedProd and Hide My Site. You can pay annually or one-time. The rates vary from $106 to $168 for annual billing and from $299 to $399, depending on the number of websites you want to install the plugin on.

While considering the price, you should also look at how the plugin solves your problem and the value it can bring to your business.

Which One of These plugins do I Recommend?

Each of the 4 plugins proves effective at password protecting your entire WordPress website.

If you want to set multiple passwords to lock your website, PPWP Pro is the way to go. Users also love this plugin due to its high level of support. If you would like to prevent brute force attackers from repeatedly guessing and trying passwords, Hide My Site is a great solution. SeedProd Coming Soon Page and Maintenance Mode is useful to optimize coming soon pages for search engines. So really it just comes down to what you need the most.
